President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Fox News host, Sean Hannity, are the best buddies who always have each other’s backs. Reportedly, the duo talk several times a week, usually early in the morning, and late at night. Their terms of discussion often revolve around Hannity’s show, the president’s agenda, the Russian probe, which Trump describes as a witch hunt; and even, as per the Washington Post, the topics Trump should be tweeting about.
Trump has often been criticized for openly stating ‘facts’, which do not even exist. As reported by the Washington Post, President Trump has already made about 4,229 false or misleading statements in his presidency reign of 558 days. Interestingly, not only Trump, but buddy Hannity too, follows in the same footsteps.
On the eve of the midterm elections, Sean Hannity promised that he would not go on stage to campaign with the president, however, later that evening he made an appearance anyway.
Earlier that day, the Fox News host tweeted, “In spite of reports, I will be doing a live show from Cape Girardeau and interviewing President Donald Trump before the rally.” He added, “To be clear, I will not be on stage campaigning with the president. I am covering final rally for my show. Something I have done in every election in the past.”
Nevertheless, minutes into Trump’s remarks, the wise friend (Trump) invited another (Hannity), asking to address the crowd. Hannity took the opportunity and said, “By the way, all those people in the back are fake news,” citing one of Trump’s favorite catchphrases. He further praised Trump for his work and took a dig at the former President Barack Obama, before finally leaving the stage.
Sean Hannity has supported Donald Trump since the 2016 election, when he first openly supported Trump’s presidential bid, provided him political counseling, and even appeared in a pro-Trump ad ahead of the vote.
The relationship between Trump and Fox News has also raised ethical questions about whether the channel is reporting the news or ‘promoting Trump’s agenda’. Hannity’s show is seen as a major influencer because of its power to attract more than 3 million viewers, making it the most-watched cable news talk show.
Besides, Former Deputy Trump Campaign Manager, David Bossie said in his interview given to The Post, “The bottom line is, during the heat of the campaign when relationships are forged, he was always there, offering good advice, in person and on television.” He added, “The president sees him as an incredibly smart and articulate spokesman for the agenda.”
Trump’s aim is crystal clear, he wants to run to take control of the media, and Fox News has certainly joined hands in the campaign. Besides that Sean Hannity plays a pivotal role by making sure that even forged statements look real on television. The road ahead for the people of US doesn’t seem so smooth.
