Jared Kushner has finally, officially registered as a member of the Republican party, as reported by the VICE News. Referring to the voting records, the media outlet claimed that Kushner despite working as a senior adviser for his father-in-law, President Donald Trump, wasn’t a Republican until September 20 last year.
Kushner who prior to that stuck by his notion “I do not wish to enroll in a party” since his registration in 2009, changed his mind so he could vote in the midterm elections.
Interestingly, not only Kushner, his wife Ivanka Trump also registered as a Republican in New York State’s voting records. However, it is still not clear when she enrolled as a member of the party.
During the 2016 Presidential elections, Ivanka and Eric Trump were unable to vote for their father because they were registered with a particular political party in the state. “They feel very, very, guilty,” Donald Trump said reflecting the disappointment both had at that time.
Kushner’s record shows that he registered to vote in New York City in 2009, and the documents also state that he casted votes in 2010, 2012 through 2014, 2016 and 2018. Ironically, Kushner was earlier registered as a woman in the State’s voting records. However, the error was later rectified. Another error in the documents revealed that though he was born on January 10, 1981, two absentee ballot applications list his birthday as January 11.
On the other hand, Kushner had to file updates on his disclosure forms for White House security clearance at least three times to get the information corrected. When he first filed in January 2017, he didn’t mention the list of his foreign contacts, misdated his degrees, and listed the President’s address incorrectly. Following which it came out that his security clearance form was denied, due to problems with his alleged foreign influence. However, those concerns were overruled later.
Kushner also works as the Middle-East peace envoy for the US. However, the criteria on which Trump handpicked him, still remains under a mysterious shadow. Correspondingly, even his work has been questioned because of the decisions he has made in the past, especially concerning the Israel-Palestine issue.
