Pensacola Shooting Prompts US to Send Back Saudi Military Trainees

Pensacola shooting incident of December 6 revealed a two-faced existence of the relations between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Where the diplomatic ties between the two nations have reflected the strongest bond of alliance, the Arab actions have brought them behind a big question mark.

Suffering from the Kingdom’s rich, spoiled brats’ attitude, the US has decided to send back over a dozens of Saudi students training at US military installations alongside Americans. The review uprooted from the Pensacola shooting, where a Saudi national, Second Lt. Mohammed Alshamrani killed three American sailors.

The US officials have been carrying out a criminal investigation into the case. No co-conspirators were charged as part of the investigation. On the other hand, the King of Saudi Arabia expressed “deep sadness and sorrow” and pledged full support.

However, the Kingdom has a long history of keeping that ‘full support’ solely for its own people. The memory from the state of Oregon writes the fact in bold letters, where Saudi assisted as many as five of its young citizens facing criminal charges in the US, ranging from rape to murder, to escape trials for serious crimes on fake passports and private jets.

American officials highlighted that the Saudi military trainees being expelled have not been identified of aiding the 21-year-old Saudi Air Force member, who was killed in the incident by a sheriff’s deputy. However, some of them were found having links to extremist movements, while others possessed pornographic material, which has remained forbidden in the Arab nation.

National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien stated no specific reason for the expulsion of the Saudi students, but emphasized on the need to be cautious after the Pensacola shooting, which also injured eight people. “We’re being very careful,” Mr. O’Brien said. “Obviously, Pensacola showed that there had been errors in the way that we’ve vetted.”

Attorney General William P. Barr and FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich will announce the findings of investigation on Monday. It was earlier reported that the Department of Justice is expected to conclude the Pensacola shooting by a Saudi citizen, an act of terrorism.

Saudi Arabia has also been a nurturer of several terrorist organizations across the globe. It is known to provide critical financial support to bases for terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Besides, the deadliest terror attack in the US history, 9/11 also involved 15 of the 19 hijackers from Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the greatest name in the world of terror and US’ historic foe, Osama bin Laden was also born in the Arab Kingdom.

The gunman of the Pensacola shooting, Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Alshamrani arrived in the United States in 2017 for a three-year program. He was reportedly taking language classes in Texas, before taking classes in basic aviation and initial pilot in Florida.

Officials highlighted Alshamrani of possibly being influenced by the extremist religious figures. Before carrying out the attack, he was said to show videos of mass shootings at a dinner party.

After the shooting in Pensacola, the Pentagon suspended all operational training for nearly 900 Saudi students in America in December. Besides, it also ordered a full review for the thousands of international military personnel from over 150 countries training alongside the American military.

The US maintains a blind faith on Saudi Arabia, making the Islamic Republic an inconvertible enemy, allowing its troops to become martyrs to Iranian attacks, ignoring the biggest of Saudi’s human rights breaches and other critical infringements, and offering a vast military and weapon support in dirty proxy wars.

Despite that, the Kingdom has its objectives clear, and in this case it apparently is to kill the allies. In a two-way relation, the efforts to enhance and strengthen the diplomatic ties have remained one sided. It was 9/11 yesterday, it is Pensacola shooting today, and it could be any other attack on the blind alliance tomorrow.
